Paramount finally opens ‘Case 39’

Renee Zellweger horror pic to be released Oct. 1

After sitting on the shelf for two years, Renee Zellweger horror pic “Case 39” will finally be released at the domestic B.O. on Oct. 1.

Paramount’s decision to open “Case 39” came after the film struck a chord in territories including Mexico and Spain. Insiders say Par’s domestic marketing campaign will focus heavily on the Hispanic market, the fastest-growing segment of the moviegoing public.

“Case 39,” also starring Bradley Cooper, Ian McShane and Jodelle Ferland, has cumed nearly $15 million at the international B.O. It grossed north of $3 million in Mexico and Spain.

Storyline revolves around a social worker (Zellweger) who is assigned to investigate the family of a 10-year-old (Ferland). After the girl comes to live with her, the social worker discovers she might not be so innocent.

Directed by Christian Alvart, film will be released under the Paramount Vantage label. “Case 39” was produced by Anonymous Content and Misher Films.

Alvart shot the pic in Vancouver in late 2006. It was first set to be released in the U.S. in February 2008, then in April 2009.

Project was led by former Par prexy of production Brad Weston.
