Duvall, Black set for indie golfing drama-comedy
Robert Duvall and Lucas Black are toplining indie golfing drama “Seven Days in Utopia” with production starting Thursday in Texas.Cast include Deborah Ann Woll (“True Blood”), Brian Geraghty (“The Hurt Locker”) and Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”). “Utopia” marks the third teaming for Duvall and Black, who previously worked together in “Sling Blade” and in Sony Pictures Classics’ “Get Low,” opening Friday. Producers are Mark G. Mathis, a co-producer on “Precious,” and Jason M. Berman (“The Dry Land”). Pic’s based on David L. Cook’s “Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia.” Matthew Dean Russell’s directing from a script he co-wrote with Cook and Rob Levine. Story follows a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, he escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas, home to an eccentric rancher who forces the golfer to question not only his past choices, but his direction for the future. Ken Herfurth, Phil Myers, Robert Carliner and Lucas Black are exec producing. ICM’s repping North American rights. The agency also reps Duvall and Leo while Black’s represented by Jimmy Cundiff, Woll by Paradigm and Geraghty by UTA.
