Setting a progressive tone for the 28th annual Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Outfest, has chosen to screen “Howl,” at the opening-night gala on July 8. The org, which is dedicated to showcasing LGBT media, picked “Howl” based on its timeless message of breaking social barriers and bucking the status quo. Pic follows a young Allen Ginsberg, played by James Franco, as his seminal poem “Howl,” faced a public obscenity trial.
The fest runs July 8-18.
The complete lineup will be announced June 2.
