‘Ong Bak 3’ attracts Magnet

Martial arts movie set for January release

Magnet Releasing has picked up U.S. rights to “Ong Bak 3,” the third installment in the martial arts saga toplined by Tony Jaa.

Magnet, the genre division of Magnolia Pictures, targets a January release for the pic. Magnet also released the first “Ong Bak” in 2005 as well as the second chapter in 2009.

Co-written, co-directed and co-produced by Jaa, “Ong Bak 3” pits Jaa’s character against a supernatural adversary played by Dan Chupong.

“Ong Bak 3” joins a slate of upcoming Magnet releases including “Monsters” and “Rubber.” Distribution deal for “Ong Bak 3” was negotiated by Magnet’s Tom Quinn with Gilbert Lim of production company Sahamongkolfilm Intl.
