Friday’s world premiere of “Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston” at the Tribeca Film Festival found Marc Jacobs, Pat Cleveland and Sarah Jessica Parker among the fashionistas mesmerized by the doc’s look at the 1970s fashion designer.
The “Sex and the City” star has assumed designer responsibilities to revive the Halston brand.
Although “Ultrasuede” dishes about Studio 54, drugs and Halston’s annual $160,000 orchid bill, doc director Whitney Sudler-Smith said he really “tried to show Halston’s achievement as an artist. It’s a heavy story but I wanted to infuse it with a bit of whimsy, wit and levity.”
“Private Practice” star Kate Walsh wore an SJP-designed Halston-inspired mini. “This is not unlike what they were doing in the 1970s,” she said of the dress. “It’s stuff you want to wear as a woman.”
