Pic is follow up to Fitoussi's 'Copacabana'

Les Arcs, France — Italy’s Offside Film is to co-produce “Farniente,” Marc Fitoussi’s follow-up to “Copacabana,” which bowed at Cannes’ Critics Week.

The €5 million ($6.6 million) adventure comedy is produced by Gaul’s Haut et Court, whose credits include Audrey Tautou-starrer “Coco Before Chanel” and Laurent Cantet’s “The Class.”

Deal was unveiled at Les Arcs European Film Festival’s Co-production Village, where the project was pitched by Haut et Court producer Simon Arnal.

Set in Italy, pic turns on a journalist who goes on vacation with her parents to an Italian beach resort to get over a recent breakup and ends up embroiled in a mysterious disappearance.

Lensing is skedded for next fall. Haut et Court will handle the Gallic theatrical release.

Haut et Court is currently producing Pawel Pawlikowski’s “The Woman in the Fifth,” and Cantet’s English-language debut, ” Foxfire,” based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel.

Offside Film’s latest production, Saverio Costanzo’s “The Solitude of Prime Numbers” played in competition at Venice. It was the subject of a case study on Italian financing and European co-productions at the Co-production Village.
