Jeremy Renner was happy to represent “The Town” in the Globes race with his nom for supporting drama actor because in his view it’s the kind of pic that Hollywood studios just don’t make anymore.
“Wow, did we have a really kickass character drama masked within a really intriguing bank heist movie?” Renner asked rhetorically. “To me, it’s a throwback to the ’70s — really tremendous cinema. … Movies like this just don’t get made. These days, it’s a big victory in that sense that it was received really well when it came out and that it did really well with the audience. I don’t think every studio is going to go out and start making movies like this but at least there’s a little more hope that we can attempt to try to make some really engaging cinema.”
Renner’s first order of business after getting the good news was “a nice shower. …I think later on tonight’s going to be a good night.”
