“Alice in Wonderland” producer Richard Zanuck never doubted the enduring appeal of Lewis Carroll’s fantasy tale, but he was pleasantly surprised at just how well Tim Burton’s new take on the material was received by worldwide auds.“We always knew we had something special,” Zanuck said. “This subject matter is 150 years old and title is known around the globe, so it wasn’t a surprise that it was successful but the degree of success was a surprise. No one thought the success would be this big unless they were smoking some weird drug. The nomination is just the perfect ending especially since the movie came out in March.”
