The world preem of Montreal helmer Louis Belanger’s “Route 132” will open the Montreal World Film Festival on Aug. 26, fest prexy Serge Losique and general director Daniele Cauchard announced on June 24.
Pic about two clever Montrealers who head to the country to dupe the hicks will play in competition.
Written by Belanger and Alexis Martin, “Route 132” was produced by Fabienne Larouche and Michel Trudeau for Aetios Prods. and by Denise Robert and Daniel Louis for Cinemaginaire.
The film stars François Papineau, Alexis Martin, Alice Morel-Michaud, Andrée Lachapelle, Benoit McGinnis, Sophie Bourgeois, Gary Boudreault, Bobby Beshro, Sonia Vignault, Francesca Barcenas, Janine Sutto, Denise Gagnon, Gaston Caron, Guillaume Chouinard and Clémence Desrochers.
“Route 132” is distributed by Alliance Vivafilms and will open commercially across Quebec on Oct. 8.
Belanger is a Montreal fest favorite, whose “Gaz Bar Blues” opened the 2003 edition while his first film, “Post Mortem,” played in competition in 1999.
Fest closes Sept. 6.
