Melbourne studio gets name change

Docklands receives $9.9 mil funding injection

SYDNEY — Melbourne City Studios has announced a A$10 million ($9.9 million) upgrade as well as a name change.

From Tuesday, the studio complex, recently home to Omnilab Media’s “The Killer Elite,” will be known as Docklands Studios Melbourne and it has a government grant to upgrade the facilities after industry-wide consultation on what was needed.

Studio topper Rod Allan said it was hoped the changes would help encourage new and returning projects and that the name change reflected the “commonly used name” for the old MCC.

Additions to the facility will include a mess hall, a large sound stage and a purpose built workshop. A feasibility study is also underway on a horizon tank.

Construction will begin early next year.
