Malkovich in spy thriller

Actor replaces John C. Reilly in comicbook adaptation

John Malkovich has replaced John C. Reilly in Summit Entertainment’s espionage thriller “Red,” based on the WildStorm/DC comicbook.

He joins Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis on the project, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, with DC exec Gregory Noveck exec producing. Robert Schwentke’s directing the script by brothers Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber.

Summit acquired rights to “Red” last year. Three-book series follows a former black-ops CIA agent hunted by a high-tech assassin.

Red” is set to go into production this month in Toronto and Louisiana. Summit’s set a Nov. 19 domestic launch.
