Magnet lends theatrical life to ‘Death’

Sean Bean horror pic to hit U.S. screens next year

Magnet Releasing makes it a hat trick this week, scoring U.S. rights to Christopher Smith’s “Black Death,” the third film to seal a distribution deal with Magnet this week.

Sean Bean and Eddie Redmayne star in the medieval period piece, centering on a church emissary (Bean) who leads a monk (Redmayne) and a band of violent men across the countryside, aiming to snuff out paganism.

Pic recently played Screamfest in L.A., snagging a handful of kudos.

Magnet, the genre division of Magnolia Pictures, aims to give “Black Death” a theatrical release in the first quarter of 2011.
