Lorber sails on ‘Sea’

Film gets N.Y. theatrical release next month

Lorber Films has picked up U.S. rights to writer-director Annemarie Jacir “Salt of This Sea.”

Film, which screened as an official selection of Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2008 and later as part of the 2009 Tribeca Film Fest, is lined up for a Gotham theatrical run starting next month, with DVD and digital to follow in early 2011.

Storyline follows a Brooklyn-born woman who follows her Palestinian roots back to Israel, where she attempts to recover the funds from a family bank account that was frozen and seized in 1948.

Producers of “Salt” include Jacques Bidou, Marianne Dumoulin and Danny Glover, among others.

Distribution deal for the pic was negotiated by Lorber’s Richard Lorber and Pyramide Intl.’s Yoann Ubermulhin.

“Salt” is set to preem at Gotham’s Quad Cinemas Aug. 13 ahead of stints in other select cities. Pic joins a slate of upcoming Lorber releases including “Army of Crime” and “Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould.”
