Nicolas Cage pic was supposed to open March 19

Lionsgate has decided that the “Season of the Witch” won’t be in March, pulling the Nicolas Cage starrer from its March 19 release date only five weeks before its planned opening.

The minimajor hasn’t yet set a new launch date for “Witch,” which also stars Ron Perlman, Ulrich Thomsen, Stephen Campbell Moore, Stephen Graham and newcomer Claire Foy.

Lionsgate’s decision to vacate the date leaves a quartet of wide openers March 19: Fox family comedy “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”; Universal sci-fier “Repo Man,” starring Jude law and Forest Whitaker; Sony comedy “The Bounty Hunter,” starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler; and Apparition’s “The Runaways.”

“Season of the Witch,” directed by Dominic Sena from Bragi Schut’s script, centers on 14th century knights transporting a girl suspected of being the witch who has spread the Black Death. Producers are Charles Roven and Alex Gartner; production companies include Roven’s Atlas Entertainment and Relativity Media.
