Mandate will sell film at Cannes
Shia LaBeouf will be popping up all over the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.The thesp, whose pic “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” makes its world premiere at the Palais, has also signed on to star in Mandate Pictures’ “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman,” which is being sold at the fest. Commercials helmer Dante Ariola will direct “Charlie Countryman” in his feature helming debut from an script by Matt Drake. The romantic actioner centers on the titular character (LaBeouf) who falls in love with a woman, who has already been claimed by an insanely violent crime boss with a gang of thugs at his disposal. “Little Miss Sunshine” duo Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are producing through their Bona Fide Prods. banner alongside William Horberg. Dean Parisot and Mandate president Nathan Kahane are exec producing. Mandate is eyeing a fall start date with Lionsgate handling international sales at Cannes. LaBeouf is currently filming “Transformers 3.” After his spec script “Charlie Countryman” kicked around for years in development, Drake’s star is rising. The scribe is penning the hush-hush Warner Bros. “Project X” for Todd Phillips and Joel Silver.
