Pop star to appear in film about his life
A feature film toplining teen recording sensation Justin Bieber will be the first film released under Paramount’s Insurge Pictures label, intended to introduce auds to a new generation of web entertainment pioneers.
Davis Guggenheim is in talks to direct.
The 3D biopic will be released on Valentine’s Day weekend of next year. Film is a co-production of Par, MTV Films, Insurge and Island Def Jam Music Group.
Bieber will produce the untitled feature with his manager Scooter Braun, Island Def Jam Music Group chair LA Reid and recording artist Usher.
Film will give auds a backstage pass into the life of Bieber, as well as feature special 3D footage from his current My World 2.0 tour.
Bieber was discovered on YouTube in 2007 after posting dozens of videos on his site. He signed with Reid in 2008 and released his debut hit “One Time.” He followed with his debut release “My World” last November, which made him the first artist ever to have seven songs from a first album on the Billboard Hot 100.
His first full studio album “My World 2.0” was released in March and certified platinum in less than two months, making Bieber the youngest solo male artist in the U.S. to have a No. 1 album on Billboard Top 100 since Stevie Wonder in 1963.
“When the idea for a movie first came to us, we knew immediately that this was our chance to give something very special back to all the fans who have been a huge source of inspiration and support throughout my career thus far. They simply made my dreams come true everyday,” Bieber said in announcing the project.
Bieber also will be forming his own production company.
An Island Def Jam artist, Bieber is repped by CAA.
