Indie horror-comedy is actor's first exec producing stint
Josh Hutcherson has signed on to topline and exec produce the teen horror-comedy pic “Detention.”
Indie project, which also stars Dane Cook, marks the second feature for helmer Joseph Kahn, who is best known for directing hit musicvideos such as Eminem’s “Without Me.”
Story centers on teens who must survive their final year of high school. Standing in their way is a slasher-movie killer who has seemingly come to life. Kahn and Mark Palermo penned the script.
Richard Weager, Maryann Tanedo and David Kang are producing alongside Kahn. Project marks Hutcherson’s first stint as exec producer. Bob Abramoff is also an exec producer.
Hutcherson, who can be seen in the indie breakout “The Kids Are All Right,” will shoot the $10 million “Detention” in L.A. next month before seguing to New Line’s sequel of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” in October.
Kahn directed “Torque” for Warner Bros.
