Jones chases ‘Fast Girls’

Pic by Noel Clarke is pegged to 2012 Olympics

Brit producer Damian Jones is reteaming with thesp Noel Clarke on “Fast Girls,” a “Rocky”-style sports pic that is intended to time its release to around the London Olympics in 2012.

Project, which Clarke is writing, producing and possibly directing, follows a group of female London athletes vying to compete for their country at the 2012 games. Jay Basu is co-writing the project with Clarke.

The U.K. Film Council is developing the project. Clarke and Jones previously collaborated on gritty youth dramas “Kidulthood” and “Adulthood,” the latter of which was Clarke’s directorial debut.

Clarke was in Berlin to tub-thump his soph directorial effort “4.3.2.1,” an unconventional heist pic following four girls from different backgrounds all linked to a robbery. Pic, whose cast includes Tamsin Egerton, Emma Roberts and Ophelia Lovibond, has been picked up in the U.K. by Universal Pictures and is being sold by Icon.

Jones’ Ian Dury biopic “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,” which stars Andy Serkis, is also being sold at EFM by Metropolis.

In separate developments, Jones has attached writer Abi Morgan to work on his Margaret Thatcher biopic, which follows the former British prime minister’s decision to lead her country into the Falklands War against Argentina.

Jones is also developing urban comedy “The Weekend,” starring British comedian Kojo. Laffer, which takes places in the London neighborhood of Hackney, is said to be in the vein of Ice Cube starrer “Friday.” Simon Pearce (“Shank”) is set to direct.

Jones is also developing “Belle and Bette,” described as a black Jane Austen project, with Misan Sagay (“Their Eyes Were Watching God”) penning the script.
