Sony’s “Salt” premiere offered a taste of a pre-glasnost Soviet Union on Monday. Requests to interview Angelina Jolie, who plays Russian superspy Evelyn Salt, were met with a firm nyet.
But after the screening at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, the vodka, champagne and caviar flowed in Hollywood & Highland’s grand ballroom, as in any good Eastern Bloc party.
At the post-preem fete, Jolie (surrounded by a phalanx of bodyguards) kept the mingling to a minimum, and she and partner Brad Pitt left through the kitchen in a stealthy exit that would have made Salt proud.
Even Sony topper Amy Pascal remained behind an iron curtain.
“I’m actually a sleeper agent for another studio,” Tolmach quipped. “I’ll be revealing the studio I really report to later in the evening.”
