Nominees for casual kudofest unveiled Nov. 30

Joel McHale has been tapped to host the Feb. 26 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Casual kudos, which are moving back to the beach after a try in downtown Los Angeles, recognize the top indie pics and performances of the year. Nominees will be announced Nov. 30.

McHale toplines NBC laffer “Community,” now in its second season. He also hosts E!’s irreverent series “The Soup,” a tongue-in-cheek look at some of the most insane TV clips of the week.

“The Spirit Awards is not only a celebration of the year’s filmmakers and their art, but it’s also about bringing together our diverse filmmaking community in a fun and laid-back atmosphere,” said Film Independent exec director Dawn Hudson. “We’re so excited to have Joel on board as the host, and his quick wit, talent and charm makes him a perfect fit for our audiences.”
