Warner Bros. comedy stars Russell Brand
Jason Winer, who directed the pilot of ABC’s “Modern Family,” will helm Warner Bros.’ remake of “Arthur,” starring Russell Brand.“Arthur” is being produced by Larry Brezner, Chris Bender and Kevin McCormick, who segued from the presidency of Warner production into a producing deal at the studio under the Langley Park banner. Brand, Scott Kroopf, J.C. Spink and Nick Linnen are exec producing. Peter Baynham’s penned the script for “Arthur,” a remake of the 1981 comedy, as a vehicle for Brand. Baynham was a writer on Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat” and “Bruno.” Brezner worked on the original and retained the remake rights to “Arthur,” which was written and directed by Steve Gordon and starred Dudley Moore as a boozing playboy who falls in love with a working-class woman. Brand starred in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and reprises his role as musician Aldous Snow in U’s “Get Him to the Greek.” Winer won the DGA’s comedy series award for directing the “Modern Family” pilot. He signed a multiyear deal with 20th Century Fox TV last year. His other credits include the ABC pilot “This Might Hurt” and episodes of “Samantha Who?” and “Kath and Kim.” Winer is repped by ICM.
