Large-screen exhib Imax reported Wednesday it has earned $115 million in worldwide B.O. receipts for the April-June frame, a 37% uptick compared to the same period last year.
The company will unveil second-quarter and six-month results on July 29.
Imax said its year-to-date global totals more than double figures during the first six months in 2009. This year, Imax has scored a boffo $347.2 million in worldwide B.O.
Imax is pursuing an aggressive expansion, striking deals for 89 new systems so far this year, compared to 35 in all of 2009.
“The drivers of our business model and long term growth continue to be network expansion and compelling programming,” Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond said in a statement. “The level of signings experienced year-to-date is positioning us for significant network growth in 2010, 2011 and beyond.”
Imax recently inked deals in the Philippines and in Russia, where the company is skedded to bring 12 new theaters by 2012.
