IFC picks up Kiarostami’s ‘Copy’

Binoche starrer sells to several territories

CANNES — IFC Films has picked up U.S. rights to Abbas Kiarostami’s “Certified Copy,” which played in competish at Cannes.

Sales company MK2 has also inked deals with Madman for Australia/New Zealand, Yega Entertainment for Korea, CDI Films for Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile, First Distributors for Hong Kong and Atlantic Film for the Nordic countries.

The Juliette Binoche starrer grossed E66,000 ($84,000) from 101 prints on its opening day in France, marking the best Gallic bow for a Kiarostami film.

The May 19 theatrical release was handled by MK2 in France, Alternative Films in Belgium and Praesens in Switzerland.

Earlier in the market at Cannes, IFC acquired U.S. rights to Xavier Dolan’s “Heartbeats” and Antoine Blossier’s “Prey.”
