Film unit pacts with Wild Bunch for Cannes duo
IFC Films has pacted with Wild Bunch for U.S. rights to two Cannes offerings, Gregg Araki’s “Kaboom” and Jorge Michel Grau’s “We Are What We Are.”“Kaboom” screened at Cannes as an official selection out of competish. A sex-fueled comic thriller penned, helmed and edited by Araki (“The Doom Generation”), pic centers on a college kid (played by Thomas Dekker) who uncovers a sinister conspiracy. Film was produced by Araki and Andrea Sperling, with Sebastien K. Lemercier, Pascal Caucheteux and Jonathan Schwartz exec producing and Pavlina Hatoupis co-producing. Written and directed by Grau and seen as part of the Director’s Fortnight, “We Are” centers on a family of cannibals that must figure out how to survive when their father figure — and flesh provider — dies. Nicolas Celis produced the pic, which will be released under IFC’s new genre banner, IFC Midnight. Deals for both films were negotiated by Arianna Bocco of IFC Films with Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch.
