TORONTO — IFC Films has acquired worldwide rights, excluding Canada, to Barry Avrich’s docu “Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project.”
Deal was sealed here in Toronto even though pic isn’t screening at the fest.
Docu follows Harvey Weinstein’s path from concert promoter to founding Miramax to winning an Academy Award. His personal life and relationships with his brother, staff and the Hollywood community are examined through interviews with industryites. Peter Fonda narrates the pic.
Pic is produced and helmed by Barry Avrich, creator of the story “The Last Mogul” and producer of the upcoming Des McAnuff pic “The Tempest.”
IFC prexy Jonathan Sehring said the docu “sheds a tremendous amount of light on what makes this legendary mogul tick.”
IFC have been very active here at the Toronto Film Fest. The distrib had the first major deal of the festival with the acquisition of James Gunn’s “Super,” starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon.
The outfit also picked up Werner Herzog’s 3D docu “Cave of Forgotten Dreams” after it screened here at the fest and Telluride pre-Toronto.
