Helmer’s hankering for ‘Chloe’

Atom Egoyan on hand for N.Y. premiere

Director Atom Egoyan has Ivan Reitman to thank for his latest film, “Chloe.”

It was Reitman who, after watching Anne Fontaine’s 2003 French film “Nathalie…,” about a woman who doubts her husband’s fidelity and enlists a seductive girl to test him, decided to develop an English version with screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson.

At the Thompson LES after-party Egoyan discussed remaking the pic. “I had seen ‘Nathalie…’ and I don’t think I would have ever thought of remaking it, but I was so taken with (Wilson’s) script,” he said, adding that he wasn’t worried about English audiences comparing it to the original.

“The fact is ‘Nathalie…’ never had that much presence in the States. It’s not a story that most people in this country know, so I wouldn’t say that I was at all hesitant about (signing on). Plus this version is a lot different from the original.”
