Thesp will play zany Aunt Opal in family pic

Heather Graham will play zany Aunt Opal in family pic “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer,” based on the popular children’s book series.

John Schultz (“Aliens in the Attic”) will direct from an adapted script by Kathy Waugh and Megan McDonald. McDonald authored the eight books in the series, about the humorous adventures of third-grader Judy Moody.

Sarah Siegel-Magness and Gary Magness (“Precious”) are producing the film, which is skedded to begin lensing in August in L.A.

Graham is the first major casting. The thesp recently wrapped production on family film “The Flying Machine.”

A nationwide casting search to find the girl to play Judy concluded today.

In “Judy Moody,” Aunt Opal is a globe-trotting, somewhat nutty personality who babysits Judy and Judy’s brother Stink for the summer.

The Magnesses are producing through their Smokewood Entertainment shingle. CAA is packaging the film and repping North American rights. Bobbi Sue Luther and Andrew Sugerman are exec producing.
