‘Hatchet’ resharpened by duo

Horror sequel set at ArieScope, Dark Sky

Indie horror pic “Hatchet” is set to become a franchise property, but not for its original distrib, Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Helmer Adam Green will direct “Hatchet 2” for production company ArieScope Pictures and distributor MPI Media Group’s genre arm Dark Sky Films, both of which specialize in horror.

Original low-budget pic pulled in negligible B.O. in very limited release, but the DVD has moved between 300,000 and 500,000 units for Anchor Bay. Green’s next pic, “Frozen,” will be for Anchor Bay and is skedded for a Feb. 5 release.

Producer Corey Neal said he’s happy that the new duo seem “right in line with our ideas in terms of how to build the franchise.”
