Hannover House has acquired North American rights to Justin Lerner’s indie drama “Girlfriend,” on the heels of its world premiere at the Toronto film festival.
The deal, announced Friday, comes a year after the film’s start of production. Hannover House said it plans to release “Girlfriend” by the end of the year.
Pic was produced by Wayne/Lauren Film Co. in association with PatchMo Entertainment. Hannover House noted in the announcement that “Girlfriend” stars Evan Sneider, the first actor with Down syndrome to be cast as a leading man in an American film.
Amanda Plummer and Jackson Rathbone
also with Shannon Woodward in the title role of a small town single mom who’s pursued romantically by a young man with Down’s Syndrome.
Lerner wrote and directed “Girlfriend,” his debut feature. He also wrote and directed the “The Replacement Child.”
