Greta Gerwig, in her first role since starring with Ben Stiller in “Greenberg,” has been cast in the untitled Ivan Reitman comedy opposite Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. Kevin Kline, Ophelia Lovibond and Ben Lawson have also been added to the cast.
Project, previously known as “Friends With Benefits,” centers of the question of whether two long-term friends can have a purely sexual relationship without falling in love.
Gerwig will play a brainy friend of Portman’s character who is the first to recognize signs that Kutcher’s character has become smitten with her friend. Reitman is directing from Elizabeth Meriwether’s script.
Paramount, which has set a Jan. 7 release, has set the pic up with Reitman’s Montecito Picture Co., in association with Portman’s shingle handsomecharliefilms and Kutcher’s Katalyst. Cold Spring Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment are co-financing with Par.
Reitman is producer, along with Montecito’s Jeffrey Clifford and Joe Medjuck. Exec producers are Montecito’s Tom Pollock, Portman and Spyglass Entertainment’s Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jon Glickman.
