Film stars Andie MacDowell, Cary Elwes

The world preem of Andie MacDowell-Cary Elwes starrer “As Good as Dead,” directed by Jonathan Mossek, will help kick off the Beverly Hills film festival on April 14 at the Clarity Theater.

Evening opens with the North American bow of doc “Sequestro” (Kidnapping) from Brazil, directed by Jorge W. Attala and produced by Frederico Lapenda. That will be followed by the unspooling of docu “Jesse’s Story,” from filmmaker Mark Jacobs about surfing hero Jesse Billauer.

Over the course of five days, 50 films will unspool in competition.

On April 18 the festival will bestow its Legends Award on producer Frank Yablans during a gala at the BevWilshire.

The 10th annual event includes seminars on film finance and anti-piracy with panelists including Nu Image/Millennium Films topper Avi Lerner, Lionsgate acquisitions and co-prods prez Jason Constantine, Gersh’s Jay Cohen and CAA’s Roeg Sutherland.
