FremantleMedia sells Oliver Stone’s ‘History’

Historical series covers U.S. from WWII to Obama

FremantleMedia is launching Oliver Stone’s “The Untold History of the United States” to buyers at Mipcom today with a private Q&A session for around 150 acquisitions execs hosted by David Frost.

The 12-part series covers the past 70 years of American history from WWII to the election of President Obama, with an episode entitled “Obama and the Destiny of the American Empire.”

Stone said the skein “debunks the heroes by restating the facts, while crediting those heroes lost in history.”

Commissioned by Showtime, Stone said the program will explore questions such as what Russian dictator Joseph Stalin said to President Truman to make him drop the atom bomb on Japan in 1945.

FremantleMedia Enterprises Global CEO David Ellender, who is selling the show, said, “I think it is fair to say the series will create controversy, debate and discussion.”
