‘Freakonomics’ to close Tribeca

Bow on April 30 marks the film's world premiere

Documentary “Freakonomics” has been chosen as the closing night film for the Tribeca Film Festival.

Gala premiere on April 30 marks the film’s world premiere. Docu is based on the best-selling tome by Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, and was helmed by a team of directors — Alex Gibney, Morgan Spurlock, Rachel Grady, Heidi Ewing, Eugene Jarecki and Seth Gordon.

“Freakonomics” was produced by Chad Troutwine and Green Film Company’s Chris Romano and Dan O’Meara, with Cold Fusion Media providing financing.

Tribeca organizers also announced two other premieres: Gary Winick’s “Letters to Juliet” and Olivier Dahan’s “My Own Love Song.”

“Letters to Juliet,” from Summit Entertainment, makes its world preem at Tribeca on April 25. Pic toplines Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave.

“Love Song” is the first English-language film from Dahan, who helmed “La vie en rose,” and stars Renee Zellweger and Forest Whitaker. Pic makes its international bow at Tribeca in a special presentation slot. “Love Song” features original music by Bob Dylan and also stars Madeline Zima, Nick Nolte and Elias Koteas.

“This trio of films embodies the spirit of diversity that has defined Tribeca through the years,” Tribeca Film Fest exec director Nancy Schafer said. “Audiences will be charmed by ‘Letters to Juliet,’ moved by Jane’s emotional journey to redemption in ‘My Own Love Song’ and glued to their seats during the riveting ‘Freakonomics,’ which marks the return of some of today’s best documentary filmmakers to Tribeca.”

Tribeca runs April 21-May 2.
