Studio snaps up comedy pitch from Adam Sztykiel

Fox is looking to get into a holiday battle, snapping up comedy pitch “The Fight Before Christmas” from Adam Sztykiel (“Due Date”) and setting it up with Shawn Levy at his Fox-based 21 Laps banner.

Fox made the preemptive purchase late last week. Other than disclosing that “Fight” is a family-centered comedy, studio’s keeping the logline under wraps.

Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone, who manage Sztykiel, will exec produce. Lauren Levy will oversee for the studio while Dan Levine and Billy Rosenberg will handle for 21 Laps.

Levy’s been responsible for a trio of successful Fox comedies, directing and producing “Date Night” and both “Night at the Museum” films. He also produced “What Happens in Vegas” for the studio.

Levy’s set to direct “Real Steel” for DreamWorks about a father and son who take a robot to the Bot Boxing Championship.

Sztykiel is also re-writing dating comedy “The Game,” set up at Lionsgate with Spyglass and Depth of Field producing.

For Kaplan/Perrone, it’s the 15th original idea that the banner’s brought to a writer and set up, including “Made of Honor,” which Stzykiel wrote.

Levy is represented by WME. Sztykiel is repped by UTA.
