Fox 2000 is putting stock in its “Wimpy Kid” series, with a date firmed for the second installment.
Studio announced Tuesday that “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” will be released March 25. Pic is based on the second book in Jeff Kinney’s bestselling illustrated kid series.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” has become a lucrative start-up franchise for Fox, with $61.5 million stateside.
The “Diary” sequel follows the series’ titular kid, played by Zachary Gordon in the first film, as he faces a new adversary: his older brother, Rodrick. Nina Jacobson and Bradford Simpson are set to produce, with Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah co-scripting.
Studio has yet to confirm a director, but added production could begin as early as the end of this summer.
