Foster, Ribisi circle ‘Contraband’

Baltasar Kormakur to direct remake for U, Working Title

Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi are in talks to join Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale in the thriller “Contraband” for Universal.

The Working Title production is a remake of the Icelandic pic “Reykjavik-Rotterdam” and is being directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who also co-wrote, produced and starred in the original.

Pic follows a security guard (Wahlberg) who, after running into financial troubles, decides to go on one more smuggling run.

Aaron Guzikowski will pen the script with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing through there Working Title’s banner along with Wahlberg, Kormakur and Stephen Levinson.

Production is set to begin in January; U has skedded it for release on March 16, 2012.

Foster can be seen next in “The Mechanic.” Ribisi was most recently seen in “Avatar.”
