Applications being accepted for third annual event

Focus Features is accepting applications for its third annual Africa First Program designed to help develop the next generation of African filmmakers.

Five filmmakers will be awarded $10,000 apiece to fund narrative short films lensed in Africa with local film industry resources. The program will also bring the winning filmmakers to Gotham in the fall for workshops and meetings with Focus topper James Schamus and other biz insiders.

The program is supervised by producer Kisha Cameron-Dingle, whose Completion Films shingle has a first-look pact with Focus.

Submissions will be accepted through Aug. 3. For more info: Focusfeatures.com/africafirst.
