Laurence Fishburne is rounding out the cast of Steven Soderbergh’s virus-outbreak thriller “Contagion,” joining Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet.
Soderbergh’s developed the project with producing partner Gregory Jacobs. Participant Media is co-financing and producing along with Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films. Warner Bros. has set an opening for Oct. 21, 2011.
“Contagion,” based on a script penned by Scott Z. Burns, revolves around the threat posed by a deadly disease, with multiple plotlines in the style of Soderbergh’s “Traffic.” Fishburne will portray a doctor.
Fishburne’s schedule for “Contagion” had to be worked out to mesh with his commitments to the lead role in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” He’s also starring in “Thurgood,” which opened Wednesday at the Geffen Playhouse in the same role that earned him a Tony nomination in 2008.
Fishburne’s repped by Paradigm and Landmark Artists.
