Paramount has snagged a first-look producing deal with “Gossip Girl” showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are hoping to expand their brand to the bigscreen.
Paramount prexy of production Adam Goodman believes Savage and Schwartz can help ramp up youth-oriented banners MTV Films and Nickelodeon Films. Deal is effective July 1.
Schwartz and Savage’s Fake Empire company will open a new satellite office on the Melrose lot, where former WME Lis Rowinski will run development.
Savage and Schwartz said they are getting a certain amount of overhead per the terms of the two-year deal, but that they want to run a lean-and-mean operation. In return, Paramount is vesting them with more autonomy in terms of developing projects.
