First Independent gets ‘Holy’

Buys U.S. rights to story of Hasidic Jew involved in drug ring

First Independent Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to indie drama “Holy Rollers” and plans a summer release.

“Rollers,” which screened in Sundance’s drama competition last month, stars Jesse Eisenberg as a Hasidic Jew in late-’90s New York who becomes involved in an Ecstasy ring.

Pic, directed by Kevin Asch and written by Antonio Macia, is loosely based on a true story. It also stars Justin Bartha, rapper Q-Tip, Ari Graynor and Danny A. Abeckaser. Abeckaser, Jen Gatien, Per Melita and Tory Tunnell produced.
