Film Center of Lincoln Society salutes Douglas

At last an award 'my father doesn't have,' he says

Danny DeVito got the biggest laughs at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s tribute to Michael Douglas Monday at Alice Tully Hall.

After singing a quick rendition of “Give My Regards to Broadway” to what thesp deemed the “hoity toity Lincoln Center crowd,” he went on to explain that while shooting “Jewel of the Nile” in Mexico, Douglas got bit by a snake on the forearm. Before a doctor could apply ointment, DeVito sucked on the wound.

“I want to say from the bottom my heart Michael that you would be a dead man now if that snake bit you” elsewhere, DeVito said.

Tobey Maguire, Milos Forman and Curtis Hanson were among the presenters.

Douglas received the award from father Kirk and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who gave her husband a pinch on the butt.

“At one point tonight Catherine was sitting next to me as we were watching all of these clips and leaned over with this lovely look and whispered in my ear, ‘God, you are really old!'” Douglas said.
