David O. Russell’s Mark Wahlberg-Christian Bale starrer “The Fighter” will step into the ring and open in theaters on Dec. 10, in the heart of awards season.
From Paramount and Relativity Media, biopic of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward also stars Amy Adams.
At the same time as dating “Fighter,” Paramount moved up the release of DreamWorks Animation’s family sequel “Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom” by one week to May 26, 2011.
In its new date, “Kaboom of Doom” will be able to take advantage of the lucrative Memorial Day frame. It had been set to open June 3.
As of now, the only other wide release set to open Memorial Day weekend 2011 is Warner Bros.’ “The Hangover 2.”
Gore Verbinski’s animated pic “Rango,” voiced by Johnny Depp, also is getting a slightly earlier release date. Par will now open the film March 4, 2011, instead of March 18. “Rango” is from Nickelodeon Films and GK Films.
Opening the same weekend as “Fighter” is 20th Century Fox and Walden Meida’s 3D family film “Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”
