Warner Bros. is developing an untitled political comedy to star Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as presidential candidates, with Jay Roach attached to direct.
Project’s being produced by Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Prods., Roach through his Everyman Pictures and Galifianakis.
No date for start of production’s been set. Ferrell has portrayed former president George W. Bush and former VP Al Gore on “Saturday Night Live,” while Roach directed the 2000 presidential election drama “Recount” for HBO.
Chris Henchy (“The Other Guys”) and Shawn Harwell (“Eastbound and Down”) are writing the script.
Warners topped offers from other studios in an auction for the Ferrell/Galifianakis project conducted by CAA. Jesse Ehrman was the key exec to bringing it in.
Ferrell starred in “The Other Guys” and as the voice of “Megamind.” He’ll also be seen in drama-comedy “Everything Must Go,” which landed at Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions after premiering at Toronto. Galifianakis worked with Roach in “Dinner for Schmucks” and is in Warner’s “Due Date” and indie “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.”
