The London Book Fair launched a film and TV zone last year on its market floor, which will be expanded this year. It’s also presenting 11 seminars across three days (April 19-21) devoted to the business of adapting books for the screen, whether that’s theatrical, TV or new media.
L.A.-based producer David Gerson of Nick Wechsler Prods. will front two sessions — one giving an insight into the business of film production, and the other titled “How to Sell to Hollywood,” where he will share the stage with Rob Kraitt of U.K. lit agency AP Watt.
Other speakers include Jeffrey Sharp and Jane Freidman of the U.S.-based e-book publisher Open Road Integrated Media, who will talk about new forms of adaptation, including e-books and every kind of screen, while lawyers Lisa Rishton of the Agency and Nessa McGill of Hammonds will discuss how authors can maximize the value of their rights.
Among the brace of seminars aimed at the movie and TV biz, agent Julian Friedman will present a session on selling books for co-production. Liz Rosenthal of Power to the Pixel and lawyer Paul Gardner will debate the place of film on the Internet. Steve Navin, CEO of the Music Publishers Assn., will discuss the lessons learned by the music industry about protecting copyright on the Web.
