Pierre-Ange Le Pogam produces $8.8 mil dramedy

Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp has teamed up with Paris-based Elzevir Films to produce French director Radu Mihaileanu’s dramedy “La Source des femmes.”

Pierre-Ange Le Pogam produces the $8.8 million “The Source” (working title) for EuropaCorp along with Romanian-born Mihaileanu. The helmer penned the screenplay with Alain-Michel Blanc, his co-scribe on “The Concert,” which was one of Europe’s biggest arthouse breakouts in 2009.

“The Source” will be co-produced by Belgium’s Panache Prods. and Italy’s Indigo. Cineart will distribute in Belgium, while BIM Distribuzione, which handled “The Concert,” will distribute in Italy.

“The Source” is set in an isolated village where women threaten to withdraw their sexual favors if the men don’t bring water to save them from an uphill walk to the area’s sole well.

EuropaCorp will handle international sales. The pic has been pre-bought by Gallic paybox Canal Plus and pubcaster France Televisions.

Lensing will kick off in October. Le Pogam said the film, which Mihaileanu is currently casting, should be ready by April or May.
