Paramount is moving its domestic launch of “The Last Airbender” forward a day to July 1, the Thursday before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Studio made the move Wednesday to take advantage on two fronts — strong interest in M. Night Shyamalan’s fantasy-adventure from its target demo of young males along with indications that the Thursday will play very much like a holiday.
Summit’s third “Twilight” pic — “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” — is set to open the day before on June 30 and is expected to dominate moviegoing that day. The previous two “Twilight” films have combined for $1.1 billion in worldwide grosses.
“Airbender,” which stars Dev Patel, Jason Rathbone and Nicola Peltz, was converted from 2D to 3D.
