After 24 years in the biz, Mauricio Duran is as enthusiastic in his job as on his first day.
He was barely 20 when he began his career at Columbia TriStar Mexico as a marketing assistant, combining work and university studies for two and a half years.
In 2007, Universal Pictures Intl. tapped Duran for the post of VP of distribution and marketing for Latin America, where a fast-growing marketplace has offered an equal measure of challenges and opportunities.
“Latin America is a sleeping giant, with Brazil on the brink of dramatic expansion,” he says. In 2008, with Duran at the helm, UPI Latin America grossed a record-breaking $157 million in the region.
“Mauricio’s been a major force behind our growing business in this territory, and this award is nothing short of well-deserved,” says David Kosse, prexy, international, for Universal Pictures.
