Dubai festival to honor Sean Penn

Cisse, Sabah also to be feted

Sean Penn will receive a lifetime achievement award at the gala opening ceremony of the seventh Dubai Film Festival on Dec. 12.

Fest chairman Abdulhamid Juma described Penn, who is being honored for both his film and humanitarian work, as an exemplary role model for those in the region’s film industry.

“His tireless work on behalf of the people of the world from Haiti to the United States, Iraq and Iran, and his use of the celebrity spotlight to assist humanity, is an example to us all,” he said.

Penn will also participate in a public Q&A session at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort.

Other lifetime achievement awards will go to African director Souleymane Cisse and veteran Egyptian-Lebanese singing icon Sabah.

The fest closes Dec. 19.
