Execs get expanded roles at Mouse House

Disney has expanded the purview of three execs who spearhead sales and distribution of the Mouse’s film, homevid and TV content.

Bob Chapek, prexy of distribution for Walt Disney Studios, said the shifts were made in response to the growth of multiplatform distribution options and the need for the studio to consider “the entire lifecycle of our films around the world.” The shift is similar to the changes the Mouse implemented earlier this year in its marketing group.

Janice Marinelli, prexy of Disney/ABC Domestic TV, will lead a new team overseeing North American distribution of film and TV content across all video, retail, TV and digital platforms. She’ll report to Chapek and Ben Pyne, prez of global distribution for Disney Media Networks. The longtime head of the Mouse’s syndie wing will be responsible for negotiating licensing and output deals for traditional and digital platforms.

Lori McPherson, exec veep and g.m. of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, will head a global product management team that oversees physical and digital properties stemming from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Disney Channel, ABC and ABC Family, among other units. She’ll also scout for new business opportunities and products tied to those properties.

Jason Brenek, Disney Studios’ senior veep of worldwide digital cinema, will oversee a international sales org tasked with developing film sales and distribution strategies.

Chapek said the three execs will “lead their new groups in implementing innovative ways for us to reach our audiences in ways that are consistent with how consumers want to enjoy our content, both today, and into the future.”
