Persuading 10 of the most critically lauded artfilm directors, including Bernardo Bertolucci and Stephen Frears, to be in your documentary is one thing. Getting them to show up for a premiere is another. “Great Directors” rookie helmer Angela Ismailos was the only director from her doc present at Tuesday’s Museum of Modern Art premiere, and Gotham’s torrential downpour wasn’t to blame.
“We thought three of them were going to be here tonight,” pic’s distrib, Paladin topper Mark Urman, said of the absentee subjects. “But we have a lot of really interesting filmmakers here, and I think it was really nice of them to show up when they haven’t been called a great director by Angela.”
Helmers Mira Nair and Doug Liman showed up, as did Susan Sarandon and Fran Leibowitz.
